DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY.

WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER YOUR WEDDING

My Approach.

Whether you want to call it documentary wedding photography, reportage wedding photography or even wedding photojournalism, it amounts to the same thing; that my approach is very natural and “hands off”. However, this doesn't mean I don't take family or couple shots - I love them and so does your mum! In a nutshell, 90% of your day is recorded with you barely knowing I'm there so you can guarantee every great moment is captured. For the rest I'll hold your hand and walk you through it.

"Wedmin"

Potentially the naffest word you'll ever say

Let's face it Wedding Planning can be stressful. I haven't even planned one and the admin fear is strong. Nightmare amounts of admin. What follows is a helpful guide to how I operate and what you can expect from a documentary wedding photography style - from initial contact right through to receiving the photos. It's not a lot but it might just save you ten minutes here and there. Any other questions can be sent here or there is a contact form here. You can also find out what it all costs here. No hidden bespoke package nonsense. It's there in black and white for you to work with.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE THE WEDDING?

You contact me, tell me a little bit about your wedding and see if I'm free. I do a little merry dance and hope the other 600 photographers you emailed are busy.
I'm always happy to take a call/facetime or meet in person. If we hit it off it's booked.
If you want a relaxed pre-wedding shoot this can be arranged. It shows those camera-shy folks how easy it can be.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?

I sit back and follow your lead. Your wedding isn't a photo shoot, there will be little to no posing because not many people enjoy that! I like to document your story as it unfolds naturally so, to begin with, I'll be capturing everything without you even noticing. That way you'll be relaxed and I'll record you and your loved ones at their very best.

WHAT ABOUT FAMILY AND GROUP SHOTS?, DO YOU DO THEM?

Yes. They might not be the most creative shots but they're occasionally the most important. I have a photo of myself and my grandad from my sister's wedding which is now one of my favourite possessions and I thought nothing of it at the time. Allow 3-5mins per group shot and have someone with a booming voice to roll call. Quick as a flash and you're back having fun.

YEAH BUT WHAT ABOUT COUPLE SHOTS, I'M AWKWARD AROUND CAMERAS!

You and me both. I operate a minimal posing couple time. We take a stroll and I plonk you near some beautiful light or background and leave you to it. You can laugh, cry, hug, kiss or wrestle. Whatever suits you best. I won't be telling you to rest your foreheads together or express love with your eyes.
It's also up to you. If you want to skip them that's cool with me.

WHAT ABOUT THE DANCE FLOOR? ARE YOU STILL THERE?

If I got married the pictures I'd want to see the most would be those of my family and friends going wild on my big day. So yeh, I'll be there nailing it down. Just make sure your guests are. I'll be there until it makes no sense to say on longer.

WHAT ABOUT AFTER? HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT?

The turn around for your full gallery is six weeks BUT.......you get a sneak preview of around 50 pictures a few days after the wedding. Proudly throw them on Insta and Facebook. After six weeks, on a Friday morning, you'll get an email link to an online gallery. I'd suggest a takeaway and a bottle of wine. It's a great way to relive your day.
If you want albums and prints we can chat more.

WHAT THEN?

You're that happy we become mates, you recommend me to all your friends and I take pictures of you getting sloppy on the dance floor at their wedding..........maybe.
