DIY Wedding, East Sussex
It would be an understatement to describe this DIY woodland wedding as cool. The location was epic farmland in East Sussex with boutique tipi camping and incredible wooded hay bailed amphitheatre for the ceremony.
The dress was inspired by the queen of frills Molly Goddard and king of style Alexander McQueen and was made by Hannah’s super talented friend Nadia Tahari. There was a running theme for Hannah and Sam’s wedding – to create a really relaxed and personal day which involved all of their family and friends. It’s safe to say they smashed it.
“It was a true celebration of not only our relationship but of all our best friends and family,” explains Hannah. “We called upon the talents of our friends; from my dress to our flowers, our band and the food, everyone had a part to play and it made the day really collaborative and unique.”
There wasn’t much of a brief apart – ‘just catch everyone having a good time, and make it look great’ – casually thrown out over a few beers. There were to be no posed, affectionate, vomit-inducing couple portraits of wedding day tradition. Their relationship has a harder edge than that.
Hannah and Sam are cool, they’re creative, and they’re original. They’ve got lots of friends exactly cut from the same cloth. Imagine a free-spirited bunch of musicians, artists, designers and writers. They turned to these guys to help create and capture the day of their lives. Every aspect of this incredible wedding was made even more special because their friends had put their hearts into it. It was an amazing one to capture and deserves to be my first blog post! It also got a feature on RocknRoll Bride!
The effort put into a DIY wedding is huge but you get a lot in return. It was an awesome wedding to shoot and for those wanting a woodland wedding in East Sussex go check out big sky tipis for an unbelievable location.
